Are We Ready To be RVers?

The three of us were individually and then together as a group wondering if in fact we are ready to be full time RVers. This is a big adjustment that we will have to make and we are sure that the transition will not be without it's fair share of bumps and bruises along the way. Our little RV, Lucille Esmeralda is small and lacking in decent storage so the "stuff" we bring with us will have to be minimal and yet enough in order for us to have everything we need to get along in life on the road.

One thing that is becoming clearer is that we will indeed have to invest in an external storage unit if we are to have enough space for all of the necessities we need to bring with us. I'm not sure if we made note of this in previous posts but we had been looking at a storage container that locks into our equalizing hitch as a possible storage solution and so far it looks to be the route we will be taking. Placing a storage pod on the roof is not for us as we are also looking at solar panels to assist us in our electrical needs and roof space is already limited and solar panels will take up every square inch of spare space we have up there.

We are looking at one of these as a solution to our storage needs: Let's Go Aero

But back to us and our concerns about whether or not we are ready for life on the road. Eugene and I are retired and can sufficiently pay our way through this RVing adventure but David is nowhere near retirement age and is cash poor and so will need to work on the road in order to pay his share of our RVing adventure. He has a few means to that end and I think it will work out rather well for him but giving up a full-time decent paying job for a "I don't know where my next paycheque is coming from" is a big step for someone to take. Selling handcrafted cards and other crafts may or may not work but one can reasonable assume that selling cards and crafts will not be a problem with the only hang-up being whether or not one can sell enough crafts in order to eke out a living out on the road.

Rae from "Travels with Miranda" is a great inspiration in that she pretty much did the same thing as David is contemplating now and she is now in year three of her life on the road. Brian from "going-rv-boondocking" fame is also a great source of inspiration so David has many examples of people surviving life on the road after they gave up full-time and stable jobs in order to live out their dreams of an RVing life on the road and I am certain that David will do the same.

We are now in the midst of planning not only RV maintenance and repairs but also planning and preparing ourselves for life on the road.

Thanks for taking time to read our blog.

Edith
