Ramblings

I have spent many moments looking at the photos I have taken of my RV and each time I look at them the more I desire to and want to get into the RV to live in it full time.  As I study the areas that need some work I find myself eager and wanting to facilitate the repairs as quickly as I can.  I look at the RV and fall in love with it all over again while at the same realizing just how much RVing means to me.  This is my life, the life I should be living and should have been living for the past twenty odd years.  Deep down I know and realize that I let myself down and made my life perhaps more difficult by not chasing this dream back in 1988 when I purchased my first Motorhome magazine and fell in love with the idea of RVing.  I will not let this turn into a regret but rather an opportunity to do it today and realize that dream without ever looking back with regret that I did not do this twenty years earlier.  It is as it should be and I accept and am humbled by the opportunity to be doing it today.

Like Tioga George looks forward to the hard work involved with repairs to his own RV I, too, look forward to the hard work involved in my own repairs.  I think this comes from having a true passion of living life in an RV.  It could be a daunting task but when I break it down into steps the task is much easier.  First I will give the roof a quick wash and the I will follow that by removing all of the vent covers on the roof and then this will be followed by a more thorough cleaning and stripping of the roof that will then be followed by the application of the seam tape that then is followed by two coats of the Elastomeric RV roof coating that then is followed by the application of the lap sealant and re-installation of all of the vent covers with the final task being the application of lap sealant and the trim pieces.  Sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

After the roof is complete I will take the rest of the trim and molding off, clean it and the apply lap sealant before re-installing the trim and molding along with the lights as I might as well get those of the way too!  Whew!  This will be at least a weeks worth of work if not more.  Good time to quit the job and get on moseying down the road, don’t you think?  What fun stuff I will be doing rather soon, don’t you say?

This is fun, I must tell you!  I really need to get over to the RV and get to work on her.  My first trip to see the RV will be the installation of the starting and house batteries under the hood so I have some power to use while executing all the work I plan to do on the RV.  Once the batteries are installed I may bravely venture out on the road with the RV to add some fresh fuel to the tank, not a complete fill of the tank but enough to dilute the old and stale fuel in the system as well as provide fresh fuel to add the fuel stabilizer to so that the fuel does not go bad.  During this visit I will do a more thorough inspection of the roof to determine exactly what I need to strip and clean her as well as the vent covers and trim I will be removing in the process.  I guess I should pick up some tools as well so not only can I install the batteries but perhaps attempt to remove some molding to see just how good or bad it is so I can then make a decision about re-using it or trying to replace with something else.

This just gets more and more exciting doesn’t it?  I am really eager to get started on this.  Patience is needed though but I am ready in mood and energy now and this is a good thing.  No more feelings of being overwhelmed or dismayed just feelings of joy and excitement about what is ahead!

This is certainly a good exercise for me as it really highlights what needs to be done in order to have the RV prepared and ready for the road.  But I am confident that I can and will do it but it will most likely just take a lot of time to get things done.

Well that's all for now so until next time. . .
